Space Copenhagen

Background

Space Copenhagen is a design studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark, established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou. The studio works across many disciplines, from interior design for private homes, hotels and restaurants around the world to art installations, art direction, furniture, lighting and refined objects.

Signature Style

The studio calls its approach Poetic Modernism: an ambition to forge new paths by balancing opposites such as classic and modern, industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. Its work is shaped by given circumstances, functional needs and an interest in human behaviour, and by a belief in a slow aesthetic that centres quality and longevity.

Notable Works

Interiors include the original Noma and Geranium restaurants in Copenhagen, the 11 Howard hotel in New York, The Stratford in London, Le Pristine and Blueness in Antwerp and Mammertsberg in Switzerland. Furniture and lighting have been created for GUBI, Stellar Works (including the Lunar, Rén, Journey and Freja designs), Fredericia Furniture, &Tradition and Mater.

Legacy

With a culturally diverse team of architects and designers working on projects in key cities worldwide, Space Copenhagen has become one of the most visible Danish studios bridging interior architecture and contemporary furniture design.
