Brand Story
Heritage
HAY was founded in Copenhagen in 2002 by Mette and Rolf Hay, who had met while working at the Danish furniture company Gubi. The first collection was shown at imm Cologne in January 2003, the first shop opened on Pilestræde in Copenhagen in 2004 and the flagship HAY House followed in 2007.
Philosophy
HAY has always believed that good design is everyone's right. From the start the founders, who remain Creative Directors, set out to work with their generation's best designers to make high-quality products available to a wide audience. Art, architecture and fashion are the three sources the brand draws on.

Iconic Works
HAY's catalogue runs from a toothbrush to a sofa. Long collaborations with designers such as Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (Palissade, CPH, Élémentaire), Stefan Diez, Inga Sempé, Naoto Fukasawa and Muller Van Severen produced furniture, lighting and accessories for homes, offices and cafés.

Today
HAY has its creative headquarters in Copenhagen and stores in cities around the world. Herman Miller took a stake in 2018 and became majority owner in 2019; HAY is now part of the MillerKnoll collective.
