Biography
Background
Giampiero Tagliaferri is an architectural and interior designer with studios in Los Angeles and Milan. Minotti's own biography describes a practice that moves between residential, commercial and hospitality work, and a sensibility shaped by the two cities he calls home. Before opening his own design practice he was creative director of the eyewear brand Oliver Peoples, and he is described as a collector and a traveller.
Signature Style
Minotti presents his interiors and architecture as a meeting of two traditions: the restraint-tempered "radical beauty" of classic twentieth-century Italian design, and the sunny optimism of Southern California modernism. On the Milanese side Minotti points to a balance of ornament and essence, splendour and discretion; on the Californian side to simplicity, understated elegance and the interplay of light, colour and landscape. The same biography stresses his interest in fine craftsmanship and collectible furniture, and in projects built around a narrative and a multi-sensory experience, with materials, textures, colours, artworks and architectural details brought together to create a sense of place.
Notable Works
- Supermoon modular seating system, whose backrests and armrests recall a lunar phase, and the Supermoon Bed (2024 Collection)
- Pattie armchair, whose concept also inspired the Pattie Cord Outdoor seats (2024 Collection)
- Ethan and Diagramma coffee tables, the latter also offered as a writing desk (2024 Collection)
- Coupé seating system, with its overlapping rounded volumes and 1960s-70s references
- Orion seating system, whose modules Minotti compares to small autonomous buildings and which it links to the architecture of John Lautner
- Libra and Laurel, listed with the other pieces on his Minotti designer page
Legacy
Minotti's May 2024 announcement of the 2024 Collection named him and Hannes Peer as its new designers, next to Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27, Nendo, GamFratesi and Inoda+Sveje. Minotti Studio orchestrated that collection, and his pieces for it span a sofa system, an armchair, tables and a bed. Coupé, from the 2025 Collection, carries a clear 1960s and 1970s influence, and he describes it as classic forms reinterpreted "through a contemporary lens"; Orion belongs to the 2026 Collection. His biography lists completed and in-progress projects that include a Venetian palazzo, a Milanese penthouse, an Aspen restaurant and homes in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, San Francisco and Las Vegas.
