Description
Overview
Giampiero Tagliaferri designed the Atlas dining sideboard for Minotti. Its projecting load-bearing sides are a polished aluminium extrusion with profiles cut at 45°, which runs down to the floor and becomes the supporting foot. Large drawers sit in the central component under a working top, and the side panels reach past the central body to carry a shelf.
Construction
The body is boxed MDF, 22 mm thick, assembled at 45°, veneered or lacquered and strengthened by a matt black varnished metal frame. The vertical sides are polished brushed drawn aluminium, 50 mm thick, with 10 mm MDF panels attached to the uprights and adjustable ABS feet fixed to the side pieces. The upper top is smoothed marble or stone with a mitre fold, 20 mm thick. The three large drawers have bottoms lined in Moka saddle leather, and the left drawer holds an inner drawer with a Moka saddle leather cutlery tray.

Story
Aluminium sides that become the feet
Atlas combines solid volumes, refined surfaces and distinctive structural elements. Its load-bearing sides are shaped by a polished aluminium extrusion with profiles cut at a 45-degree angle, and the extrusion runs down to the floor where it becomes a supporting foot. Wood or glossy lacquered panels cover the sides in harmony with the main volume.
Drawers, top and shelf
Large drawers sit in the central component beneath a top used as a working surface. Beyond that body the side panels continue outward to hold a shelf, adding another layer of function and composition. The precise cuts and continuous lines of the sides are echoed in the lower volumes of the unit.
