Description

Overview

Eames Tables Outdoor are Charles and Ray Eames table designs re-engineered for outdoor use, with round, square, oval and rectangular stone tops at coffee and dining heights.

Construction

Two-centimetre stone slabs with a bull-nosed, honed edge are bolted through the column to a powder-coated cast aluminum base (contract, universal or segmented).

Specifications

The representative table is the round contract-base table at 48 in diameter and 28.5 in high; the sheets draw other tops from 30 to 84 and a coffee height of 16 (all inches on the US sheets).

Story

From the Miller House terrace

Herman Miller traces the Contract Base Table Outdoor to the outdoor tables designed for the Miller House and later sold with the Aluminum Group. The cast aluminum cruciform base is the same shape shared with the original Aluminum Group chairs.

Reengineered for weather

The company says it replaced parts unsuited to outdoor use, added powder coatings and paired the bases with four stones named after their home states. The Eameses, it notes, never treated their work as sacred and kept refining their furniture over the decades.
