Description
Overview
The Eames Molded Wood Chair uses three-dimensional veneer technology to form a single contoured wood shell. Herman Miller introduced the achieved wood version in 2013 with the Eames Office.
Construction
The shell pairs with four-leg, dowel, wire, or task bases. An attached seat pad is optional, and the line also includes counter- and bar-height stools.
Applications
Herman Miller presents the side chair as guest seating for private offices, collaborative spaces and cafés, and offers bar- or counter-height stool bases.
Story
Completing a long investigation
Charles and Ray Eames pursued molded wood as part of their continuing shell-chair experiments. Herman Miller says that veneer technology finally caught up with the intended one-piece form in 2013.
Within the Eames Collection
The wood chair joins the plastic, fiberglass, and wire shell designs in the existing Eames Collection, while retaining its own material process and base choices.
