Story

From outdoor seating to Soft Pad

Herman Miller's design-story page says the Aluminum Group began in 1958 as outdoor seating requested by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard for the Columbus, Indiana, home of J. Irwin Miller, and that in 1969 the Eameses added plush, individually upholstered cushions and named the new chairs the Soft Pad chairs.
