Story
A couch for Billy Wilder
Herman Miller's design-story page says that Billy Wilder, who found he could nap on a plank held up by sawhorses, asked his friends Charles and Ray Eames for a narrow office couch. The Eameses introduced the chaise in 1968 and gave the first one to Wilder.

A sculptural frame
The product page calls the chaise a work of art with trim lines and a sculptural frame and base.
