Collection Story
Origin
Betty is the Thau & Kallio series that began in 2019 with a stackable chair and takes its name from the Betty Nansen theatre in Copenhagen. The 2019 press release describes the theatre as a wooden pavilion originally built in 1857 and introduces the chair as one built around seat webbing. A later press release, for the 2024 armchairs, tells the origin differently: Betty came from a request by the Betty Nansen Theater for new, lightweight and easily transportable benches, and the choice of webbing followed the wish for a light design and a technique common in Sweden.

Design Language
The stackable chair comes in three versions, according to &Tradition: seat of linen webbing, seat of solid wood, or upholstered leather seat, each in several colour combinations, and the brand presents Betty as a versatile, simple companion for kitchen, living and dining spaces. The series is made with FSC certified wood and water-based lacquer, and the 2025 press release says its pieces are designed for disassembly and manufactured in a plant that runs on certified renewable energy. In 2024 the range gained a smoked oak finish, which the press release calls coherent with Kallio's In Between Collection.
Key Pieces
The product pages list the Betty Chairs Collection as TK1, TK2, TK3, TK9, TK10 and TK11. The August 2025 release names three wood finishes for them, Black Lacquered Ash, Clear Lacquered Oak and Smoked Oiled Oak, and describes them as suited to private and hospitality settings, from kitchen counters to lobbies and bars, with a robust construction, a supportive backrest and a footrest. The press releases trace how the series grew: the chair (2019), a bench in two lengths, TK4 and TK5 (2020), a counter stool, TK7, and a bar stool, TK8 (2021), the armchairs TK9, TK10 and TK11 (February 2024), and the counter chairs TK12 to TK14 and bar chairs TK15 to TK17 (August 2025).
