Description
Overview
Round D.154.5 is an armchair by Gio Ponti, created in 1954 and reissued by Molteni&C within its Heritage Collection. The page says the design was originally created in 1954 and is now reissued with remarkable fidelity.

Construction
The page counts eight separate components, the reason for the nickname Otto Pezzi, and says a slender metal leg ensures stability. On the datasheet the seat and back structures are electric welded metal frames with shaped polyurethane under a bonded cotton-polyester fabric cover, the feet and aesthetic screws are steel, and the back supports are curved plywood with a stained ash veneer.
Specifications
- D.154.5A and D.154.5B armchairs: 61 cm wide and 72 cm deep; the drawing's tallest vertical value is 80 cm, which is not labelled on the drawing
- Feet finishes: satin brass, black chrome
Story
A reissue built on archive study
The datasheet says that, more than 60 years after the original idea, Round (D.154.5) was reborn through the Heritage Collection reissue project, run with the Gio Ponti Archives. As with every project in the collection, it says, the study of drawings, photos and period materials made it possible to reproduce the armchair faithfully in every detail.
Eight pieces and an original material
The page counts eight distinct components, including a sculptural backrest and seat joined by curved elements, and says the chair is crafted from multi-layered ash wood. It adds that Ponti originally chose Vipla, a leather-like plastic, for the upholstery, and that today the armchair can be covered in textiles or leathers from the Molteni&C collection.
