Description
Overview
The LC17 Portemanteau is a wall-mounted coat stand by Le Corbusier, which Cassina titles LC17 Portemanteau, Unité de Camping, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The sheet and the page both give 1957. The page calls it a multi-colour space saver in solid oak, with mushroom-shaped knobs mounted at different heights according to the Modulor proportions.
Construction
The sheet lists the coat stand in oak, matt black stained, and knobs in solid oak, matt finish, in white, black, red, green and blue.

Story
The Cabanon and the Unités de Camping
According to Cassina's sheet, Le Corbusier first made this coat rack for the Cabanon, the summer cabin on the Côte d'Azur that he drew up in 1951 as a gift for his wife Yvonne. Cassina's re-issue follows the 1957 version, which was produced for the Unités de Camping beside the Cabanon.
Colour and the Modulor
The sheet ties the rack's several colours to the bright palette of those small units, which were planned around the snug comfort of a ship's cabin. The mushroom-shaped hooks sit at different heights following the Modulor's criteria.
