Description
Overview
The 1 Fauteuil dossier basculant (LC1) is a lightweight, compact armchair. Its product sheet reads 1928 for the design year and 1965 for the Cassina production year; the chair was introduced at the 1929 Salon d'Automne. Design credit: Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand.
Construction
The frame is tubular steel in a polished chrome or painted finish, with nickel-plated steel springs that fix and anchor the upholstery. The sheet lists the upholstery as self-supporting fabric with natural leather trim, hair-on leather, or self-supporting saddle-hide. The feet are plastic with a black finish.
Specifications
- Model 0011: W 60 x D 65 x H 64 cm, seat height 40 cm (unlabelled mark on the drawing's side view; the product sheet shows the same number)
- Structure: chrome-plated or painted black
- Seat cover on the page: saddle leather in 13 colours (tobacco, briar, ivory, brown, China red, natural, taupe, grey, Bulgarian red, cognac, blue, black, white)
Story
A sitting study from 1927
Beside the description, the product sheet prints a Le Corbusier sketch of different ways of sitting, dated 1927. The sheet describes the armchair as the result of an in-depth study of human posture, engineered for easy-going relaxation that is conducive to conversation.
Salon d'Automne, 1929
Designed in 1928, the chair was introduced in 1929 at the Salon d'Automne together with the Fauteuil Grand Confort (petit and grand modèle), the Table Tube d'Avion and the Chaise Longue à réglage continu. Besides the standard model, the sheet names a 1928 version for Villa Church and a 1930 version made for the Union des Artistes Modernes exhibition.
