Overview
D.357.1 and D.357.2 are bookcases by Gio Ponti, designed in 1956-1957 for his private house in Via Dezza, Milan. Molteni&C re-edits them from drawings kept in the Gio Ponti Archives, in two sizes, with or without an applied mirror.
Construction
Per the datasheet, the pieces are made from shaped multi-layer material with elm veneer, partly with a natural transparent finish and partly hand-painted in white. The sides, central divider piece and horizontal tops use multi-layer poplar panelling faced with sliced elm veneer; white parts are hand brush painted in acrylic.
Specifications
- D.357.1: 124.7, 29.5 and 250 cm (axes not labelled on the drawing)
- D.357.2: 100.5, 21.2 and 130.5 cm
- Optional framed mirror: D.950.1G for D.357.1, D.950.1F for D.357.2
Story
Designed for the Via Dezza house
The page says the bookcase was originally imagined in 1956-1957 for Gio Ponti's private home in Via Dezza, Milan. The datasheet adds that it is part of the furniture of that house, and that this re-edition is produced from the Archives' drawings.
Two collection names
The page ties the reissue to the Molteni&C Heritage Collection, and the datasheet within the Molteni&C Gio Ponti Collection. Both describe a structure of shaped multi-layer wood with an elm veneer finish.
