Overview
The Crate Lounge Sofa is the sofa of the Crate series by Gerrit Rietveld, which was relaunched by Rietveld Originals and HAY. It has low proportions and supportive armrests, and its back and seat slope gently.
Construction
- Wood: solid pine, water-based lacquered
- Assembly: knock-down, supplied as pre-assembled seat, back and leg sections
- Options: optional cushions for the seat, in selected textiles

Story
A crate design, relaunched
Rietveld's Crate series was drawn as a way of using up surplus wooden shipping crates. The relaunch respects the original design, and its sofa shares the series' balanced proportions and transparent construction.
Low proportions, sloping back
Low proportions and a back and seat that slope gently give the sofa its stance, with armrests that support. Its spatial design echoes Rietveld's architecture and aims for comfort without absorbing space.
