Overview
The Civil Bench is a bench in solid wood with a woven Viennese cane seat, added by Cassina to its Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret collection as a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret. Cassina describes sleek shapes and simple materials poised between modern European ideals and the traditional Indian spirit.
Construction
- Structure: solid teak or oak.
- Seat: three consecutive woven Viennese cane elements on a single frontal crossbar.
- Side supports: two supports in the shape of an inverted V.
- Feet: black plastic.
- Cushion (optional): polyurethane foam in fabric, leather or light velvet.

Story
Produced for the Legislature Assembly lodgings
Cassina's sheet says the bench was produced between 1955 and 1956 for the lodgings and apartments of the members of the Legislature Assembly of the Indian city of Chandigarh. Cassina continues its study of the furniture of the city by adding it to the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret collection.
Three seat elements, one crossbar
Three consecutive seat elements form the bench, carried by a single frontal crossbar and two side supports shaped as an inverted V. The seat carries the weaving that recurs across the collection, and optional cushions add protection and comfort.
