Description
Overview
The Aluminium Chair EA 124 – Lounge by Charles and Ray Eames is, in Vitra's words, the quintessential lounge model in the Aluminium Group. It combines an extra-high backrest and head cushion with a tilt that follows the sitter's weight setting, and it can be paired with the stool EA 125.

Construction
The tab describes a high-backed chair with welded, ribbed upholstery in fabric or leather, a die-cast aluminium frame, armrests and four-star base in a polished, chrome-plated or powder-coated finish, and a backward tilt; the factbook adds a neck cushion and glides.

Fabric covers: Hopsak, Cosy 2 and Track (eight colours each on the page); the two leathers (Leather; Leather Premium F), each with the Plano back panel. Base: chrome (01), polished aluminium (03), or textured powder-coat in deep black (12), dark bordeaux (60) or chalk (37).
Story
The lounge version
Within the group the EA 124 is the lounge chair. Vitra credits its extraordinary comfort to the extra-high backrest and head cushion working together with a tilt mechanism adapted to the sitter's weight, and pairs it with the EA 125 stool as a footrest.

For taller sitters
The factbook's lounge chapter, which treats the lounge versions of the Aluminium and Soft Pad Chairs together, says the high backrest gives optimum support even to users taller than average and that the backward tilt of the shell adds to the sense of relaxation.
