Biography
Background
Marcio Kogan was born in São Paulo on 6 March 1952 and graduated from the architecture school of Mackenzie Presbyterian University in 1976. His early career was split between cinema and architecture, often with his Mackenzie classmate Isay Weinfeld. His office took the name Studio MK27 in 2001, when it also became more collaborative: the architects who work with him are co-authors and sign projects together with him.
Signature Style
Wikipedia describes his projects by high detail, formal simplicity, strong relations between inside and outside, passive thermal comfort, pure volumes and traditional elements such as mashrabiyas, with a preference for raw wood, concrete and stone. Minotti describes his architecture as open and squared, with floor-to-ceiling windows that erase the boundary with the outdoors, and his design style as inspired by nature, the warm woods of his homeland and clean lines.
Notable Works
- Quadrado outdoor seating system for Minotti (2018), his first design project
- Daiki armchairs, Boteco sideboards and Linha tables for Minotti
- Brasilia and Superquadra families (2021), Linha Studio desk and Daiki Studio armchairs, which launched the Studio Collection
