Brand Story
Heritage
Muuto was founded in Copenhagen in 2006 by Kristian Byrge and Peter Bonnén. Byrge had previously been involved in founding the restaurant Noma. In 2014 Maj Invest Equity acquired a 45% share of the company, and in December 2017 Knoll announced it would acquire Muuto with effect from January 2018. Muuto is today part of MillerKnoll.
Philosophy
The name comes from the Finnish word muutos, meaning new perspective. Muuto is rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition of enduring aesthetics, functionality, craftsmanship and honest expression, and expands it with forward-looking materials, techniques and bold creative thinking. Before introducing a design, the company wants to be sure it adds a new perspective, improving or challenging what has been made before.

Iconic Works
Muuto handpicks contemporary designers who share this mindset and works with them on royalties. Its range spans furniture, lighting and accessories, including the Fiber Chair family by Iskos-Berlin. In 2019 it launched the Strand lighting collection with Benjamin Hubert, its first collaboration with a British designer.
