Collection Story

Origin

The Outline family by Anderssen & Voll for Muuto sprang from the initial Outline Sofa. Muuto's story with the designers asks what defines a design family and gives their answer: it is "the total sum of its parts", with members that elevate one another when paired in a room. Espen Voll compares such a family to a human one: "We find that design families in many ways are a lot similar to the families of humans in the sense that they continuously evolve over time".

Design Language

Anderssen sums up the family as having a clean and elegant outside combined with a deep seat and soft cushioning. New members translate that language into other typologies: a chair, the compact Studio pieces, a corner sofa, a pouf and a daybed.
