Description
Overview
Tre Pezzi is an armchair by Franco Albini, drawn with Franca Helg in 1959 according to the product sheet and produced by Cassina in 2009. The page calls it "the modern wingback armchair", its "generous, enveloping, upholstered shapes" blending minimalist concepts and the utmost comfort.
Construction
The frame is tubular steel, chrome-plated or painted. The sheet lists elastic belts under the seat, steel spiral springs in the headrest, cold-foamed polyurethane and resin-treated polyester fibre wadding paired with canvas, under a fabric or leather cover.

Story
A restatement of the bergère
The sheet describes Tre Pezzi as a contemporary restatement of the classic bergère, built from three parts: a deep curved seat, a ring-shaped back rest and a half-moon head-rest, each standing out independently.

Scaffolding poles and a Milan handrail
The sheet says the tubular metal frame is cued on scaffolding poles, and that the sideways curve of the armrests recalls the handrails of the Milan underground, also designed by Albini and Helg. A photo caption on the sheet dates that handrail project to 1964.
