Description
Overview
Chaise Longue Indochine is a chaise longue with armrests by Charlotte Perriand. The page presents it as "a symphony of modern lines", an iconic chaise longue equipped with armrests to read, write and work in complete relaxation.
Construction
The page and sheet list a tubular steel structure and padding in recycled PET fibre. The page text adds that three curved segments joined by fasteners intersect, that elastic webbing supports the seat, and that a topper with removable upholstery envelops the structure, its quilted motif stitched from edge to edge.

Story
Designed in Vietnam, 1943
The page dates the chaise longue to November 1943, when Perriand was Director of Crafts in Vietnam. Confined to her bed late in a pregnancy, she drew a chaise longue with armrests so that she could continue to read, write and design.
From rattan to steel
According to the page, the first specimen was made in rattan because steel could not be found during the Pacific War. In collaboration with Pernette Perriand-Barsac, Cassina recovered the original intuition and produces the chaise longue in painted tubular metal.
