Description
Overview
Tabouret Méribel is a table-stool by Charlotte Perriand. The page lists it among Cassina's coffee and side tables and describes it as one of two historic low table-stools made from simple materials and basic shapes, with an eye to architecture and mountain life.
Construction
The page lists solid oak or American walnut legs and a top of solid oak or American walnut slats. The product sheet adds a natural version in matt lacquer and a black-dyed version in matt lacquer, and says the seat is turned and meets stylised legs; the Méribel is the taller of the two stools on the sheet, with three angular legs.
Specifications
- Code 523 01/02/11: diameter 33 cm, height 38.4 cm
- Finishes: Canaletto walnut, oak stained black, natural oak
Story
Named after a place
The sheet says the two stools are both inspired by the mountains. One takes its name from the milking stool used by alpine shepherds, while the Méribel is inspired by the French locality much loved by Perriand, designer and architect.
Honest shapes
According to the sheet, the pieces stand out for the honesty of their simple shapes and the concrete expression of their materials and function. Cassina produces them through meticulous craftsmanship that respects the authenticity of the original design, and the use of solid wood lets the grain continue right across the seat to the borders.
