Sumo Bed

Overview

Piero Lissoni designed the Sumo bed for Living Divani in 2023. The bed joins the Sumo collection, and its headboard carries the moving-backrest mechanism that began on the sofa.

Construction

Sumo Bed is a double bed. The headboard structure is 20x20 mm tubular steel belted with coated rubber elastic strip springs, padded with differentiated-density polyurethane foam and covered with a washed, sterilised goose-down mattress enclosed in separate sectors. Integrated adjustable mechanisms hold the headboard in various positions, up to a maximum height of 98 cm, and threaded pins and knobs attach the headboards to the bed frame so they can be removed. The bed frame is poplar and fir plywood strips with polyurethane foam padding, covered in a 100% polyether fabric that is coupled to thermofixed polyamide velveteen, and it is assembled to a 60x30 mm tubular steel frame painted with black epoxy powders. The steel feet are Ø24 mm and 20 cm high, painted Gunmetal grey with epoxy powders, and the floor supports take tips in black plastic or in felt, which can be exchanged. A 100% cotton cover in ecru attaches to the bed frame cover and opens on the sides through 2 zips for the bedsprings.

A bed that takes the Sumo backrest mechanism

Sumo Bed is Piero Lissoni's 2023 addition to the Sumo collection, alongside a new bed bench. The moving backrest started on the sofa and now also serves the headboard of the bed, where it answers new attitudes and rituals, for body and for mind.

Adjustable headboards on a steel frame

The headboards carry integrated mechanisms that hold them in various positions up to a maximum height of 98 cm, and they attach to the bed frame with threaded pins and knobs. The frame is made from 60x30 mm tubular steel painted black, standing on Gunmetal grey steel feet.
