Overview
Piero Lissoni drew Sumo Armchair for Living Divani in 2021. It completes the Sumo family as a "totem on stage", with carefully balanced weights and a more classic, rigorous idea of comfort.
Construction
Underneath is a 30 x 30 mm tubular steel frame powder-coated in RAL 8025 (epoxy polyester). Its suspension consists of elastic straps of coated rubber woven crosswise. Polyurethane foam padding is lined in 100% polyether, bonded onto a polyamide velveteen that is thermofixed, and a felt pad shields the seat cushion. Fixed to that pad is a 10 mm emptied HPL panel, veneered and edged in Canaletto Walnut "rigatino" under a water-based acrylic paint finish. Armrests are built on a double-panelled poplar and pine structure; the backrest uses 20 x 20 mm tubular steel with its own strap suspension. Armrests, backrest and seat cushion are differentiated-density polyurethane foam enclosed in a goose-down mat (pre-washed, sterilised) held in separately stitched compartments. Covers in fabric or leather can be removed entirely, fastened with Velcro and zippers. The Ø25 mm steel bracket, 21 cm high, is powder-coated in Gunmetal Grey.
Specifications
The backrest is fixed or fitted with a headrest mechanism with several positions, up to a maximum height of 82 cm. Seat depth is 63 cm.
Story
A totem on stage
The armchair completes the Sumo family. The "totem on stage" of the Sumo range is built around carefully balanced weights, for a more classic and rigorous idea of comfort.
Backrest and panel
Two backrest options exist: fixed, or with a headrest mechanism that moves between positions and reaches 82 cm at its highest. A Canaletto Walnut veneered panel belongs to the build, next to a steel bracket finished in Gunmetal Grey.
