Story
From Ombra Tokyo
The sheet says Perriand designed Ombra in 1953, taking as her reference her Ombra Tokyo chair of about the same time, made with curved plywood. The name is the Italian word for shadow, and the sheet describes an interplay between the object and its shadow.
Maximum function, minimal structure
According to the sheet, the piece expresses her aesthetic of maximum function with minimal structure, and the strict geometry of seat and back lets the elements slot into one another so that they read as one continuous piece. Cassina re-issued the armchair "in full respect of the original concept".
