Biography
Background
Philippe Nigro studied Applied Arts: a bac F12, a BTS in industrial design at La Martinière in Lyon, and a DSAA in product and furniture design at the école Boulle. During those studies he designed the 'Ailleurs' garden in Chaumont-sur-Loire and the Flac light, winner of a Habitat competition, together with C. Gardet. Since 1999 he has worked as a freelance designer, and also with studio De Lucchi in Milan.
Signature Style
Nigro practises a simple form of design, from furniture to scenography projects, and says that what comes first is the meaning one brings to a project. With family businesses he takes the company's wider culture and gives it a more personal translation.
Notable Works
For Ligne Roset he has designed the Confluences settee (2009), Flax, Philéas, Manarola, Hémicycle, Marechiaro, Evisa and Kilt. Earlier projects include the Spiral shelf, Storage-Unit chest, Intersection divans, Twin-Chairs and the Tréteau table base.
Legacy
Intersection led to the Confluences upholstery collection produced by Ligne Roset, and the Confluences settee began a lengthy collaboration with the brand.
