Biography
Background
Jehs+Laub is the Stuttgart design studio of Markus Jehs (born 1965 in Stuttgart) and Jürgen Laub (born 1964 in Ulm). The two met while studying industrial design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd and became friends after an internship in New York in 1990. They graduated in 1992 and set up jehs + laub in 1994.
Signature Style
The studio's own portfolio is organised into furniture, lighting, product and space. Its furniture covers chairs, tables, sofas, lounge chairs, beds, storage and wardrobes, and much of it is designed as families that grow over many years, such as Jalis for COR or Ginkgo for Davis.
Notable Works
The studio started by designing furniture and lamps for Italian companies such as Cassina, Ycami and Nemo. For Nemo it designed Leo and Constellation (1998), Loop (2007), Crown (2009) and Endless (2011). Other work listed by the studio includes the Space lounge for Fritz Hansen (2007), the JL Collection for Knoll International (2009), the Jalis family for COR (from 2009), the Striad chair for Herman Miller (2016) and the Occo chair for Wilkhahn (2016).
Legacy
Over the years the studio expanded its cooperation with international brands including Cassina, Fritz Hansen, Knoll International, Renz, Stelton, Davis, Schönbuch, COR and Wilkhahn. For Mercedes-Benz it designed the master concept of the worldwide showrooms, numerous interiors and exhibitions, and the "suite 606" at the Icehotel in northern Sweden.
