Description
Overview
LKR is short for Lounge Height K-Wire Shell Rod Base: the compact, low-seated member of the Eames Wire Chair line. Vitra's page says Charles and Ray Eames kept several versions of this small chair at the Eames House in Pacific Palisades, among them the LSR with a plastic shell. Dated 1951.

Construction
A welded and bent steel wire forms the shell, finished in chrome or powder coat. Below it the wire base with cross struts has the same finish as the shell. Bare, the chair can also be placed outdoors, according to Vitra; with a seat cushion or the two-piece pad it is upholstered.
Specifications
490 mm wide, 550 mm deep, 660 mm high. The page's material text gives a seat height of 260 mm. Frames come in chrome (01) or, in smooth powder coat, white (04), citron (92), sky blue (93), Eames Sea Foam Green (31), dark green (24) or basic dark (30).
Story
A wire shell for a small lounge chair
Vitra presents the Wire Chair, welded from steel wire, as one more take on the organically shaped one-piece shell, with transparency and technical refinement, and lets the shell be matched with several bases and with a cushion or a pad in two pieces.
At home with the Eameses
The page attaches the LKR to the Eames House, saying the couple used several variants of this small chair there. Vitra gives 1951 as the date of the design.
Pads
The LKR takes the optional seat cushion or the pad in two parts for seat and back, in fabric or leather, and the removable outdoor version is listed beside them.
