Description
Overview
The Ren Side Table is a small tray table by Neri&Hu, from 2016. A tray shelf is attached to the lower crosspiece of a solid wood frame whose two sides take the shape of the Chinese ideogram ren.
Construction
- Structure: solid wood, two shaped sides and two crosspieces, with plastic caps
- Tray: a birch plywood base in Canaletto walnut veneer, framed by a curved brass band covered outside in saddle leather or leather, with a leather or saddle leather mat on the bottom
- Metal details: brass rings on the outside and brass ovals on the inside of the joints at the upper crosspiece; steel and brass parts carry a transparent matt surface treatment

Story
From the entryway
The Ren complementary pieces grew out of Neri&Hu's study of the entryway, where guests are welcomed. The side table is one of those hybrid objects, refined in manufacture and shape, and its sides repeat the outline of the character ren, person.
Wood, brass and leather
The frame is solid wood and the tray shelf joins it with brass and leather. The leather band is cold-branded by hand along its edges in Saddle Extra, and stitched tone on tone or in contrast in ColorSphere.
