PK54 Dining Table

Overview

The PK54™ Dining Table was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1963. The product page describes it as an exploration of contrasting materials and forms: circle meets square, marble meets mineral. It features Italian marble or granite and a satin-polished steel frame.

Circle meets square

The fact sheet calls the PK54™ dining table "a study in contrasting materials and forms. Circle meets square and the pure quality creates a sculptural impression that makes the table the natural focal point in any room no matter where the table is placed." The sheet adds that the optional PK54A™ extension ring changes the table's appearance completely, without losing its identity, when the concentric wooden leaves are applied.

The extension ring

According to the fact sheet, one of the defining characteristics of the table is the extension ring, which provides an unusual solution to the problem of extending a round table. The ring consists of six parts that interlink with the tabletop and is made of untreated solid maple; a storage unit of the same material comes with it. The sheet dates the design to 1963.
