Description
Overview
The Hat Trick Chair is Frank Gehry's armless bentwood chair for Knoll, dated 1990 on the product page. It combines a flexible strip back with a cross-ply maple seat.
Construction
Each hard-white-maple member contains between six and nine bonded veneers. Thermoset glue supplies structural rigidity without metal connectors. The contoured seat uses cross-ply maple; Knoll offers a removable shower-cap pad in its textile ranges and in Spinneybeck leather.
Specifications
- W 20 x D 22.25 x H 33.5 in (508 x 565 x 851 mm)
- Seat height 18 in
Story
One armless member of the bentwood group
Hat Trick applies Gehry's maple-strip method to a side chair without arms. The page singles out the cross-ply seat for rigidity while allowing the back to flex.
