Description

Overview

The Gogan armchair carries the credit of Patricia Urquiola, 2019, and sits among the Armchairs of the Moroso range. The form is likened to flat stones shaped by wind and water, solid and yet smooth enough to lie on.

Construction

Backrest and seat both sit on a wood and wood-derived framework padded with polyurethane foam of differentiated densities, and the seat carries a belted surface. A polyester lining lies under the covers, which can be taken off in every version except leather. Glides of black polypropylene are screwed onto the structure.

Story

A stone-like form

The image behind the armchair is flat stones given their shape by wind and water, solid and yet smooth enough to lie on. Japanese stones worn smooth by time and water gave the Gogan project its inspiration.

Balance without regularity

In a rock sculpture each stone holds its place through careful positioning and interlocking. The armchair keeps its own equilibrium through a shape that is not overly regular, and playing with gravity and balance lets normally heavy shapes feel lightweight.
