Description
Overview
Children's Chair N65 is a children's chair by Alvar Aalto for Artek, marked 1935. Artek describes clean lines and a simple, elemental structure: a low rectangular backrest formed from a single piece of birch plywood, and a circular seat.
Construction
The structure is solid birch for legs and edge-band, with a backrest of pressed birch plywood. Seats are cored in birch plywood or solid birch and topped with veneer, laminate, linoleum, padded fabric, padded leather or plain leather. Aalto's original L-leg system supplies the standardised components behind the design.
Specifications
- Overall size: 35 x 38 x 60 cm
- Backrest: form-pressed birch plywood
- Seat edge-band: solid birch
- Origin: Finland
Story
A backrest that follows the back
The backrest of Children's Chair N65 is a low rectangle pressed from one piece of birch plywood. Artek says its slight curve lets it form naturally to the back and offer comfort and support.
Standardised L-leg parts
Artek puts the chair together from the original L-leg system of standardised components, and the recognisable circular seat sits on top of it.
