Story

An armless chair in wire

Knoll's design page lists the side chair as model 420C, and the cut sheet shared with the barstool describes the wire side chairs and stools as individually hand welded. Its seat and base are one welded steel rod structure on a sled base, and a Knoll logo is stamped into the back of the base.

Pads and covers

The chair can be had bare, with a seat pad that snaps onto the frame, or with a full cover that is hooked directly to it. The shop's picker lists nine upholstery ranges and 58 colours, and a 2006 brochure shows the side chair in a range of outdoor-appropriate frame colours with vinyl pads.
