Story

A chaise first shown in 1950

Knoll's design page says Bertoia showed a chaise longue in his original presentation of wire chairs to Hans and Florence Knoll in 1950, essentially the Large Diamond Chair extended on two sides, and that it was not developed because production was complex. Knoll obtained access to a prototype in 2003 and took it as the model for reproduction, and the chaise went into full production in 2005 with help from Bertoia's family.

Pad or full cover

The original design was intended to have a full-length upholstered pad designed by Richard Schultz. Today the chaise comes with an optional seat pad or the original full cover.
