Biography

Background

Ronan Bouroullec was born in 1971 in Quimper and is described by Cassina as a French artist and designer. He has worked with leading international design publishers for more than thirty-five years. His studio website, shared with his brother Erwan Bouroullec (born 1976), says the two were born in Quimper, Brittany, and began working together in 1998 after Ronan's studies at the decorative arts school in Paris and Erwan's at the art school in Cergy.

Signature Style

Cassina describes work from craft to mass production, permanent installations in public spaces and daily drawing. The studio site describes the brothers' work as a permanent dialogue aimed at more balance and finesse, covering objects as small as jewellery, spatial arrangements and architecture, and drawings, videos and photographs.

Notable Works

  • For Cassina: the Treflo tables and, with Erwan, the Cotone family.
  • With Erwan (studio site): the Joyn office system for Vitra (2002), Steelwood for Magis, which received the Compasso d'Oro in 2011, and Lustre Gabriel, installed at the Château de Versailles in 2013.

Legacy

Cassina says his work is regularly exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and that around thirty of his works have recently entered the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The studio site names MoMA, the Design Museum in London and the Boijmans museum in Rotterdam among the museums holding the brothers' designs.
