Biography
Background
Niels Bendtsen is a Danish-Canadian designer and entrepreneur who was born in Denmark and moved to Canada at the age of eight, where his father ran a furniture factory.
Signature Style
He sees good design as first and foremost about logic: a chair must function, be producible and make structural and material sense. For him manufacturing is a source of inspiration, and the aesthetics follow intuitively.
Notable Works
The Limit Lounge Chair, originally created in Copenhagen in 1974 after he returned to Denmark in his early twenties, which the manufacturer calls an early milestone in his career. It is made from a single material with added upholstery.
Legacy
The Limit Lounge Chair has a place in the MoMA permanent collection, and Normann Copenhagen has reissued it for a new generation, keeping to the original ethos of functionality, efficiency and simplicity.
