Description

Chair S15

The Yumi chair, configuration S15, is Niels Bendtsen's 2018 chair for Moroso. A curved hollow back wraps around a separately formed upholstered seat, keeping the profile open beneath the backrest.

Construction

Cold-injected polyurethane foam covers an internal steel frame in the back and a wooden structure in the seat. Slender powder-coated steel legs support the body.

Upholstery

Seat and back may receive different coverings. The covers remain permanently attached, allowing the two upholstered areas to be specified independently without changing the chair's structural principle.

Story

The bent-bow idea

Yumi begins with a bent bow that creates the chair's continuous back and side outline. The opening between seat and back makes this enclosing shape visually lighter while preserving its curved gesture.

Separate surfaces

Bendtsen divided the upholstered seat from the back so fabrics, leathers and finishes can be combined across two surfaces. Moroso positions the family for homes and commercial interiors, with upholstered and woven interpretations built around the same bow-like language.
