Biography

Background

Lievore Altherr Molina was founded in 1991 by Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr and Manel Molina. Lievore, born in Buenos Aires in 1948, trained as an architect at the University of Buenos Aires and settled in Barcelona in 1977, where he was part of the Grupo Berenguer and opened his own studio in 1984. In 1991 Jeannette Altherr (born in Heidelberg, 1965) and Manel Molina (born in Barcelona, 1963) joined the studio, which was renamed Lievore Altherr Molina.

Signature Style

Arper describes the studio's approach as humanist: a desire for pure, beautiful forms derived from the constraints of function, technology and context, applied through a multi-disciplinary method spanning furniture, interior, product and package design.

Notable Works

  • Catifa family for Arper — Catifa 53 (2001), Catifa 46 (2004), Catifa 60 and Catifa 80
  • Duna, Leaf, Kinesit, Loop, Zinta, Dizzie and Yop for Arper
  • Earlier Lievore designs: the Manolete armchair (1988) and Rothko armchair (1989)

Legacy

The studio received Spain's National Design Award in 1999 and its partners have practised and taught extensively in Spain. Its collections, Arper says, are among the company's most influential and beloved.
