Biography
Background
Johannes Foersom (born 1947) and Peter Hiort-Lorenzen (born 1943) are a Danish design duo who have worked together since 1977. Foersom trained as a cabinetmaker with Gustav Berthelsen in Copenhagen, finishing his apprenticeship in 1969, and graduated from the Arts and Crafts School in 1972. Hiort-Lorenzen became a ship carpenter at Helsingør Shipyard in 1962, then graduated from the Arts and Crafts School in 1965 and, in 1968, the Royal Danish Academy.
Signature Style
Their Campus chair answered a brief for a functional, affordable volume chair for the international contract market: it stacks, links and is moved on its own trolley, and Lammhults places it in conference, office, institutional and residential settings.
Notable Works
- Campus chair (1992) and Campus Air for Lammhults
- Quickly, Spira, Funk, Grade, Portus, Archal and Atlas Air for Lammhults
- Apollo chair, Trinity chair and the Savannah lounge group
Legacy
The pair have worked with Lammhults since the mid-1980s and helped the Swedish company become more international; Campus, which Foersom calls "that little chair", has won several awards. Their honours include the Bruno Mathsson Award (1998), Best of NeoCon (1995) and the Finn Juhl Prize (2005).
