Biography
Background
Christophe Delcourt was born in 1966 in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, near Paris. He studied drama at the Cours Florent, graduating in 1988, and it was set design that drew him towards materials, objects in space and, eventually, furniture. In 1995 he launched his first collection, making the objects himself and entrusting the furniture to two brothers, a cabinetmaker and a blacksmith, from whom he learned assembly techniques and craftsmanship.
Signature Style
His work is known for a sculptural approach and for the quality of its craftsmanship in wood, stone, ceramics, bronze, textiles and leather. Minotti describes his on-trend, understated elegance, his exceptional sensitivity to materials and colours and the sartorial attention he pays to every structural detail.
Notable Works
The PEN bookcase (2000) established the signature style of his own brand, Delcourt Collection, followed by the NUA table, KAY floor lamp and DUL chair. For Minotti he has designed the Lou storage units, tables and coffee tables, the Fil Noir armchair and Noor coffee table (2017), the Granville seating system and Dan table (2018), and the Daniels seating system and Amber coffee tables-low units (2019).
Legacy
Delcourt Collection, with its studio and showroom at 47 rue de Babylone in Paris since 2003, now offers a catalogue of more than 500 pieces, each made to order and customisable. In 1999 he was named Designer of the Year at Maison & Objet.
