Description

Overview

The Fil Noir armchair is a Christophe Delcourt design for Minotti. Minotti's page says the Fil Noir chairs take their name from thread: the tube that makes up the body of the chair also outlines its silhouette, supports it and envelops it. The tubing is painted matt black, and rings in polished Gold, Bronze or Black-Nickel set off the corners of the chair.

Construction

  • Frame: metal tube, 20 mm diameter, matt Black varnish, with decorative details in polished Gold, Bronze or Black-Nickel
  • Backrest and seat: metal with elastic straps of high natural rubber content, encased in fire-resistant polyurethane foam; a temperature-sensitive Memory Foam insert in the backrest
  • Seat cushion: goose down in channels with a structural support insert; Gold Label certification from Assopiuma
  • Covers: fabric covers come off completely once the metal structure is removed; leather upholstery is fixed
  • Feet: protective felt glides

Specifications

Story

Thread as a design decision

Minotti presents the name Fil Noir as a reference to thread, a sign of continuity. In its text the thread, or tube, is what the chair is made of as well as what outlines it, and the choice of metal tubing painted matt black is called a choice of absolute austerity.

Softened corners

The page says the austerity of the black structure is softened by the rings at the corners of the chair, which add a note of decorative contrast. It describes the backrest with its enveloping shape and the comfortable seat as the result of a search for a harmony of form and function.
