Biography

Background

Annie Hiéronimus was born in Paris. She grew up in an artistic family and studied at the Ecole des Métiers d'Arts et des Arts Appliqués, starting in 1972 and graduating with a BTS in surface plastic arts. She joined the Roset Bureau d'Etudes (R&D department) in 1976 and was its only woman until 1996; she has worked independently since 1997.

Signature Style

Her approach is both artistic and functional: useful, comfortable and beautiful furniture, with nothing unnecessary. She worked with a geometrical spirit, in quilting and in volumes, and the factory workers paid her the compliment that if it was comfortable, it was Hiéronimus.

Notable Works

  • Sandra, re-edited by Ligne Roset: armchair, settees with lumbar cushions and footstool
  • Plumy: feather-filled cushions and a zipped cover
  • Baba, an all-foam bed-settee
  • Opus, Petit Matin and Confidences, the last pieces she created for Ligne Roset
  • Sassi vases (Ligne Roset) and the Zilia settee (Leolux)

Legacy

In her words, Sandra and Plumy have been given a second chance at life. After the R&D department she taught design and painting and continued as a plastic artist, organising an exhibition each year.
