Origin

X is a pair of designs by Hvidt & Mølgaard that &Tradition has brought back: the lounge chair X HM10, reissued in 2022 after the brand found it in old archives, and the coffee table X HM13, drawn from family archives and released in February 2025. Both are dated 1959 in the press releases.

Design Language

The release for the coffee table says that the two were originally conceived as a matching set and designed to complement each other, and that the table's construction is based on the same principles as the chair. Its X-profile takes up the form of Egyptian folding chairs that are more than 3,000 years old, and its curved perimeter, a raised edge in solid oak, is inspired by Japanese woodworking techniques.
