Collection Story

Origin

Torii is a Minotti family by the design studio nendo, shown in the 2020 Collection. The name comes from the shrine gate that nendo evokes in the metal base; the studio's second image is the Senbon Torii, the colonnade of 1,000 vermilion gates.

Design Language

A light metal base of interlocking horizontals and verticals carries padded volumes that Minotti describes as couture craftsmanship. Each horizontal almost holds the seat and back, as in Kigumi joinery, and ends in a small Black-Nickel disc that works as a jewel-like button against the Bronze finish. Torii Bold, from the 2023 Collection, is a family derived from the original design.

Key Pieces
