Description
Overview
The Torii Bold sofas by nendo for Minotti rest large, softly rounded upholstered volumes on a light metal base. The sofa has a gentle curve in a small and a large size, and each can have a peninsula. The technical sheet lists the angled sofas of 212 cm and 247 cm, both 82 cm high.

Construction
The seat is plywood in several thicknesses under variable-density, high-resilience polyurethane foam. The metal backrest is foamed in the same kind of resilient foam and in a breathable heat-bonded fibre on white cotton. Backrest cushions are goose down. The feet are solid metal rods of 25 mm in Bronze with a Black-Nickel brass tip.

Story
From Torii to Torii Bold
Minotti says Torii Bold was created from the original Torii design by nendo. The backrest shape stays as it was, while the look becomes more solid and compact; the page speaks of a harmony between the two families, with full volumes playing against empty ones.
Couture details
The slim backrest has vertical quilting and piping in eco-leather or eco-nubuck around the edge of the upholstery, which Minotti calls sartorial details that stress the couture side of the work. The feet have a small jewel-like button and keep the play of verticals and horizontals taken from traditional Japanese construction details, from which the family takes its name.
