Torii Armchair

Overview

The Torii armchairs (nendo, Minotti 2020 Collection) are drawn as a perfect circle and come in Bergère, Large, Medium and Small versions, each fixed or on a swivel base, with ottomans alongside. Minotti says they answer different needs of function and ergonomics, and that the same research produced the Dining, Dining Large and Lounge little armchairs. The Small armchair also exists as Torii Nest.

Construction

• Seat: plywood padded with resilient polyurethane foam of variable density, on rubber-rich elastic webbing
• Backrest: metal, coated in flame-resistant foam and a hypoallergenic heat-bonded fibre; vertical slat quilting with double stitching, and piping around the cushioning
• Cushions: channelled goose down (Assopiuma Gold Label) around a foam core
• Feet: 25 mm Ø solid metal rods in polished Bronze, brass tip and decorative element in Black-Nickel; swivel base in Bronze metal, 360° with return

Circular seats

Minotti describes the armchairs and swivel armchairs as perfect circles, made to meet a mix of functional and ergonomic demands. The page says the Bergère, Large, Medium and Small seats, and the Dining, Dining Large and Lounge little armchairs, come from in-depth research into expressing the sophisticated simplicity of fine craftsmanship.

Marble-topped bases

On some elements the base reaches out to a marble surface, Calacatta or Stone Grey with matt polyester, whose proportions and thickness Minotti says were studied so that it blends into the seat. Customers can choose a 100% fabric cover, a 100% leather cover, or fabric combined with a leather base.
