Collection Story
Origin
Rely is a collection by Hee Welling for &Tradition. The brand's family page dates the debut of the series to 2020 and says that the collection has since grown into a full product family for residential, contract and hospitality settings.
Design Language
The page links the collection to Welling's minimalism, describing the pieces as a blend of simplicity and practicality in which each curve of the ergonomic form is developed for back support. Arm, side, office and bar versions can be combined with plain or upholstered shells. The family page also records &Tradition's work with Welling on the plastic: the recycled granulate first came from car interior parts and post-industrial waste, and the collection is now described as using post-consumer plastic from discarded white goods such as washing machines and dishwashers. Welling is quoted on the environment: "When it comes to the environment, we want to do the best job possible with the best materials available."
Key Pieces
The family page groups the models as side chairs, lounge chairs and armchairs, and bar and counter stools. Its list runs from Rely HW6-HW10 to Rely HW140 and includes Rely HW11-HW20, the chairs on a swivel base, and Rely HW33-HW34, the armchairs.
