Brand Story
Heritage
String Furniture continues the legacy of Kajsa and Nisse Strinning, whose String® shelf won the Bonnier Folk Library bookshelf competition in 1949 and a gold medal at the Milan Triennial in 1954. After a period when String® was out of production, the Strinnings sold the manufacturing rights to the newly started company, founded in 2004 by design enthusiasts Peter Erlandsson and Pär Josefsson, and String® System went back into production.
Philosophy
The company sets out to encourage creativity in every space, upholding the Scandinavian tradition of ingenious design: pieces that are elegant in form, instantly recognisable and flexible in function, forever inspired by the simplicity of the original String® shelf. Because the system's measurements have not changed since 1949, older elements fit with new ones, and String says its furniture does not need to be recycled because it can be rebuilt, repaired and reused.

Iconic Works
- String® System (1949), the modular wall and floor shelving system
- String® Pocket, Nisse Strinning's last design, launched in 2005
- Museum Collection and Relief by TAF Studio
- Works, Pira and Center Center

Today
String Furniture is based in Limhamn, Sweden. It states that 95% of its furniture is made in Sweden from renewable, recyclable or recycled materials, that 98% of its product volume is bought from Swedish suppliers, and that 100% of its steel wires are made from recycled steel.
