Brand Story
Heritage
Montana Furniture is a family-owned Danish company established in 1982 by Peter J. Lassen, who also created the modular Montana System. Lassen came to the furniture industry in 1954 after an occupation in the Danish navy and worked with architects such as Arne Jacobsen, Jørn Utzon, Piet Hein and Verner Panton. The company is now run by his son Joakim Lassen, the fifth generation of the family to work with furniture and a great-grandson of manufacturer Fritz Hansen.
Philosophy
Montana is built on Peter J. Lassen's belief that everyone needs freedom and has a natural desire to create their own personal spaces. Lassen started from an abstract square box and removed everything unnecessary until it had rounded edges, missing corners and retracted fronts — the brand's design DNA. Colour is central: Montana's palette was developed with Danish designer and colour expert Margrethe Odgaard.

Iconic Works
The Montana System — 36 basic modules in 4 depths, made in 12 mm lacquered MDF and finished in Montana's poetic colours — is the company's defining product. Montana also produces tables and chairs designed by Verner Panton, Schmidt Hammer Lassen and Jakob Wagner, alongside Peter J. Lassen's and Joakim Lassen's own designs.

Today
All Montana modules are designed, developed and made in Denmark, where more than 140 professionals in a small town on Funen handle processing, painting and assembly. Montana has used only water-based lacquers since 2007; the Montana System carries the Danish Indoor Climate Label and the EU Ecolabel. The company serves private homes and contemporary office spaces, selling online and through trained Montana retailers.
